Project Reflection

The final product I created for the exhibition is a recycle bin made out of recycled soda cans, I am very proud of it because I put a lot of effort in to creating it. It was a long process though because I had to smash a LOT of soda cans. I learned a lot more about sustainability than I already learned in class, like what does the equation, area x bioproductivity = biocapacity [SUPPLY]population x consumption per person x footprint intensity = ecological footprint even means and put it in my own words.

I learned from this project that sustainabilty it's not just about recycling its about maintaing our earth today without hurting the needs of tommorrow. By using biofuels or cellulosic ethanol which don't pollute our earth like gasoline, and using solar panels and windmills instead of coal which humanity may loose in 20-60 years.

Sustainability to me means fixing today without hurting the needs of tommorrow. Being an environmental steward to me means being responsible for someone else's responsibility, say someone throws a water bottle in a trash bin go get it and put it in a recycling bin, who cares if it is gross... you are saving the world as we know it!

Why would cellulosic ethanol be more sustainable and efficient than biofuels using corn or sugar cane?

Using cellulosic ethanol is more sustainable than bio fuels using corn and sugar cane because cellulosic ethonal uses things that humans do not use. For example some cellulosic ethanol's use a husk of a corn which humans do not eat.

What is cellulosic material?

Cellulosic materials are parts of a plant that humans do not eat.

What is an enzyme? What is a catalyst?

Enzymes and catalysts are oraganisims that speed up a process.

Why are termites a great subject for biomimicry research?

Termites are an amazing subject for biomimicry research because they produce cellulosic ethanol from their bodies.

What is biomimicry?

Biomicrcy is imitation of life, like creating something that nature creates.
